But I could be dreaming all that up. Definitely going to see this show when I&#8217;m back in the city this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/hyperallergic.com\/86011\/what-doesnt-add-up-adds-up-to-allison-millers-new-paintings\/?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Weekend+Sol+Lewitt+Pablo+Helguera+Music+Reviews+Allison+Miller+WarPhotography&amp;utm_content=Weekend+Sol+Lewitt+Pablo+Helguera+Music+Reviews+Allison+Miller+WarPhotography+CID_b560adbdeb51423b6353714b5b50d3c8&amp;utm_source=Newsletter&amp;utm_term=What%20Doesnt%20Add%20Up%20Adds%20Up%20To%20Allison%20Millers%20New%20Paintings\" target=\"_blank\">Hyperallergic<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The recent show further convinced me that Miller \u2014 who refuses to make work that is stylish, seductive, charming, nostalgic, retro, ironic or hip \u2014 is up to something. It is not that we wouldn\u2019t recognize a Miller painting as such, it\u2019s that she refuses to give her work a look. And in order to do this, and to keep everything in play while working on a painting, she seems to understand the necessity of exploring a territory that hasn\u2019t been colonized by discourse, that hasn\u2019t been snatched up and packaged by critics and theorists as the latest example of postmodern capital. I am further impressed by the fact that she refuses to affix a spiel to her work. I become distrustful when the artist resorts to a verbal component to deliver the enlightenment. \u00a0 &#8211;John Yau<\/p>\n<p>So refreshing to read all of those sentences. I may post that somewhere as a manifesto, even though I fear I may give the appearance of violating much of it myself in the coming months. Doh. I actually have an <em>idea<\/em> for my solo show in May&#8211;until now I had hoped, as a painter, I possessed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lrb.co.uk\/v02\/n06\/mary-mccarthy\/ideas-and-the-novel-henry-james-and-some-others\" target=\"_blank\">a mind so fine<\/a> no idea could violate it. Apparently not.
